History
The Birth of Modula
Modula was born in 1987 from an idea of Engineer Franco Stefani, who envisaged a vertical warehouse to store electronic material in his System Ceramics production facilities, where machines for the ceramics industry were being designed.
The first design of Modula was inspired by the existing rotary warehouses, where operators could pick up and deposit the necessary parts quickly and ergonomically. Thus the first Modula was born, a name that already identified the modularity and flexibility of the product. Since then, the project has come a long way.
The first Modula were used in-house at Fiorano Modenese and soon became the object of interest for the ceramic sector, to which System was dedicated. With their diffusion and the obvious advantages of using them, the warehouses caught the attention of other companies in different sectors, and began to populate the factories of mechanical companies, especially in Emilia Romagna.
Since 2000, Modula has experienced real expansion, with the sales network expanding to cover new sectors and respond to new needs. Modula itself adopted its automated warehouses, qualifying from the beginning as a fully 4.0 factory.
As products, customers, markets and needs grew, Modula's production plant also expanded and evolved. After the first steps in Fiorano Modenese, the need arose to dedicate an entire high-tech production site to Modula. This new plant was inaugurated in Casalgrande in 2009, basing production on a lean manufacturing and Industry 4.0 philosophy, with interconnected processes and new paradigms of human-machine interaction.

MODULA WMS 3.11.11
Description
Modula WMS (Warehouse Management Software) is the system, designed and developed by Modula SpA, to provide complete warehouse management. The system is based on the Microsoft SQL Server relational database.
Modula WMS makes it possible to manage the warehouse in real time via a PC interface, communicating constantly with the automatic warehouse management application and exchanging all the necessary information.
By configuring the connection between the WMS and the company management system (host), it is possible to exchange the data necessary for managing the warehouse (article master data, order master data, statistical data, etc.).
The application contains a machine registry (automatic warehouses) in which the data for each configured automatic warehouse is stored.
For warehouse management, WMS has several functionalities, grouped in packages,
which allow different modes of use. Activating a particular package enables the
the functions contained therein will be enabled.
- MODULA WMS BASE is our entry level and enables the management of one or more warehouses. With this package, a maximum of 3 locations can be managed, including 1 server. (without ERP integration or other systems). The main functions are: Article master data, stock management, movements with pick-up/deposit orders...
- MODULA WMS PREMIUM our most comprehensive warehouse management package. It provides all the functionality of the BASIC, while adding many more. For those who require a complete, expandable WMS solution that can be integrated with existing ERP systems; products that can be connected include picking carts, picking stations, AMR robots, put-to-light and modula cloud.
ADDITIONAL PACKAGES
You can enrich the Modula WMS Premium package with specific packages dedicated to particular functions to make your WMS more efficient and improve your work.
- ADVANCED PICKING: provides advanced functionality to improve picking and depositing.
- ADVANCED ANAGRAPHY: extends the functionality related to master data management
- MODULA DASHBOARD: is a ‘Digital Dashboard’ configurable with different Widgets for displaying performance data of the Modula system. It can provide real-time information such as order status, article and picking statistics and much more with a simple interface accessible from the web via PC or mobile. The dashboard displays data from the Modula WMS software, but external data sources can also be configured.
- MOBILE PICKING APP for Android devices, allows you to operate in complete mobility on all manual warehouses managed through Modula WMS. The intuitive user interface allows you to perform picking and deposit operations with just a few clicks. If necessary, you can use the terminal's barcode reader or camera.
The application can be installed on any Android device from version 8 to 11.
- IDOC SAP PROTOCOL: This is a data exchange between SAP WM and Modula WMS (ASCII format) via IDOC, provided SAP contains the WM module. The Modula WMS must be seen by SAP as a black box where requests and request outcomes are sent via IDOC.
- MANUAL WAREHOUSE: This module allows SW management of manual areas with the following functionalities: management of manual warehouses by means of an intuitive graphic tool, management of picking activities on manual areas, management of distribution (Split) of material between the different areas based on the quantities handled, management of replenishment of material between areas based on minimum stock values that can be defined for the different areas and management of the entry area
DO YOU ALREADY HAVE A WMS IN YOUR COMPANY? WE HAVE A SOLUTION FOR YOU.
WMS Driver and WMS Link are conceptually similar solutions, both of which provide for the entire warehouse management to be delegated to the company's management system (ERP), provided the latter is capable of managing the automated warehouse logistically.
